SCOTT COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – The body of a 78-year-old man was recovered from the Barnett Reservoir in Scott County.

According to Scott County Coroner Hunter Wolfe, the body of William Lee Purvis was recovered around 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6 near the Low Head Dam boat ramp. The coroner believes the victim’s truck malfunctioned when he tried to put his boat in the water.

Wolfe said it appears Purvis drowned, but his official cause of death has not been confirmed.

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks (MDWFP), the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, and the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene.
