Man wanted for Hattiesburg armed carjacking arrested after Madison chase

MADISON, Miss. (WJTV) – An 18-year-old, who was wanted in connection to an armed carjacking in Hattiesburg, was arrested in Madison after a chase.

Madison police said they were alerted to stolen vehicle, a 2016 Nissan Altima from Hattiesburg, around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 8. The vehicle and occupant were believed to be related to an armed carjacking that occurred on Highway 98 in Hattiesburg on Monday, August 5.

Police said they attempted to stop the vehicle, but the vehicle fled from Main Street and Grandview Boulevard where it struck three vehicles.

According to investigators, the vehicle continued to Colony Park and went across Highway 51 where the driver lost control and struck a bridge on McClellan Drive. Police said the suspect, Montoya Motley, of Gulfport, got out of the vehicle and ran into the Cobblestone subdivision armed with a handgun.

After a short chase, Motley was arrested without incident near the back of a home. Officers said they recovered three firearms and a large quantity of marijuana.

Motley was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries. The citizens involved in the prior accidents were treated at the scene and released.

Investigators said Motley was also wanted in Biloxi for armed robbery and possibly kidnapping. Madison police are coordinating with Hattiesburg and Biloxi to further the investigation where additional suspects are being sought in their jurisdictions.

Motley is being held at the Madison County Detention Center. In Madison, he has been charged with felony fleeing, two counts of receiving stolen property, possession with intent to distribute and three counts of felony malicious mischief.
