JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The opening of the new Capitol Complex Improvement District (CCID) court has been delayed.
The new court was in a temporary location at the War Memorial building in downtown Jackson, which did not have enough space. The court relocated to the Continental Trailways bus station near the Naval Reserve Center, resulting in the delay.
“The current building, Continental Trailways building, is just beginning renovations. It’s been… we’ve done some demolition work to get ready for it, and we’re about to start on the next phase, which is the roof replacement and interior modifications required for the temporary court,” explained Glenn Kornbrek, deputy director of the Department of Finance and Administration.
He said the permanent location will be in the Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home at West and High streets. Renovations are underway and are nearly complete.
Rep. Chris Bell (D-District 65) said the court was originally supposed to open in 2025. He said Attorney General Lynn Fitch has already picked four attorneys from her office to serve as prosecutors for the court.
“It’s unfortunate that she has already picked four individuals out of her office to be a part of the court system. We don’t know who their names are. We don’t know what their backgrounds are. We don’t know if they even reside in the City of Jackson or Hinds County,” Bell said.
There is no date on when the new court is expected to open.
