JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Two men are in custody for illegal dumping in Jackson.

Police said the two suspects illegally dumped tires on East McDowell Road.

“Once officers arrived and made contact with the two individuals, a small amount of marijuana was also found in the vehicle with the two individuals. We do not believe these individuals are from the Jackson area based on the vehicle’s tags, where not from the state of Mississippi, nor was one of the IDs that was found on the individuals,” said Captain William Kendrick with the Jackson Police Department (JPD).

Considering the large piles of trash and tires at the location, the abandoned property seems to be a hotspot for frequent dumpers. Jackson police said they’re working to install surveillance cameras in areas that are prone to dumping.

“We are definitely trying to get more cameras throughout the city to catch criminal activity. As far as when there’s going to be a camera in that area, I do not know at this time,” said Kendrick.

Detective Tommie Brown identified the two suspects as Herrera Garcia and Orrin Wilder, both of Austin, Texas.
