LAFAYETTE COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Lafayette County deputies said a 19-year-old died after crashing into a pond.

Investigators said they received a call about an overturned vehicle in a pond on private property just after 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 18. They said the incident occurred in the 500 block of County Road 103.

First responders determined the accident occurred overnight. Firefighters and a tow truck were able to recover the vehicle from the pond.

The driver, 19-year-old Gray Cassidy, of Oxford, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

“This is a heartbreaking situation for our community,” said Lafayette County Sheriff Joey East. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Gray Cassidy during this difficult time.”

The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
