12-year-old killed, 2 critically injured in Mississippi crash

COVINGTON COUNTY, Miss. (WHLT) – A 12-year-old was killed during a crash in Covington County.

Officials with the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) said the two-vehicle crash happened on Highway 532 around 5:30 p.m. on Monday, August 19.

Troopers said a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by 17-year-old Tristan Hutton, was traveling east on the highway when it collided with a 2003 Dodge Ram, driven by 59-year-old Jerry McDonald, that was traveling west on the highway.

According to MHP, the passenger in the Chevrolet, 12-year-old Josiah Hutton, was pronounced dead at the scene. Tristan Hutton and McDonald were transported to local a hospital with critical injuries.

This crash remains under investigation by MHP.

Josiah Hutton was a seventh grade student at Mount Olive Attendance Center, and Tristan Hutton was a senior at the school.

“Our Pirate family would like to thank all who supported our students and staff today as we dealt with Josiah’s loss,” officials with the attendance center said.
