RIDGELAND, Miss. (WJTV) – A man pled guilty in Madison County Circuit Court to firing multiple shots at Ridgeland police officers.
Madison and Rankin County District Attorney Bubba Bramlett, Jr. announced that Keithannin
Cortez Starks pled guilty to two counts of aggravated assault on law enforcement officers. He was sentenced to 40 years in prison.
The shooting occurred at Ridgeland Place Apartments on William Boulevard on May 4, 2024. Two Ridgeland police officers responded to a call for a domestic disturbance at the location.
According to investigators, 29-year-old Keithannin Starks and his girlfriend were inside the apartment when officers arrived. The officers said they could hear screaming from inside the apartment, but they were unable to contact the occupants.
As officers attempted to open the door, police said Starks fired multiple rounds through the door at the officers. Neither officer was hit.

Police said the female victim was able to exit the apartment as Starks fired more shots at officers through a second floor window of the apartment building. Officers returned fire and requested backup.
Other law enforcement agencies arrived at the location. After a standoff, investigators said Starks voluntarily left the apartment and surrendered.
