JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – With the Labor Day weekend underway, many travelers in the Jackson-metro are expected to hit the roads or fly for quick getaways.
The Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport saw an increase in travelers on Friday, August 30. Airport officials believe more than 2,100 passengers have department from the airport, and they expect to see the trend continue through the weekend.
Across the country, 17 million people expected to fly between August 29 and September 4. The TSA anticipates Friday to be the peak travel day, with agents planning to screen 2.86 million people.
The record-breaking travel seen this summer and expected this weekend primarily involves domestic trips. According to AAA, international travel is down about 4%, with costs rising 11% compared to previous years.
