Man convicted of kidnapping girlfriend in Hinds County

HINDS COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – A man was convicted of kidnapping his girlfriend and being a felon in possession of a firearm in Hinds County.

Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens said Joseph Zattoni was convicted of kidnapping a young woman in February 2023.

Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP0 troopers responded to a call on Highway 473 after a young woman reported she had been abducted from her car and forced into Zattoni’s car. The woman was identified as Zattoni’s girlfriend.

Authorities discovered the victim’s vehicle on the side of the road containing her belongings. Investigators said Zattoni had fired shots at her vehicle as she tried to flee his home following a fight.

Zattoni faces up to 30 years for kidnapping and 10 years for being a felon in possession of a firearm. He will be sentenced on September 16, 2024.
