GULFPORT, Miss. (WJTV) – Gulfport police announced a woman was arrested after investigators said she dragged an officer with her vehicle.

The incident occurred just before 3:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 5 outside the Gulfport Police Station.

According to investigators, 39-year-old Daronda Monique Jackson arrived at the police station to discuss a hit-and-run incident. After speaking with Jackson, an officer informed her that she had multiple misdemeanor warrants and that she was under arrest.

Jackson allegedly told the officer that a juvenile was waiting in her vehicle and that she needed to inform them of the situation.

The officer offered to relay the message to the juvenile. While doing so, the officer said they noticed Jackson leaving the station and getting into the driver’s seat of her vehicle. Police said the officer ordered Jackson to exit the vehicle while standing in the doorway of the open driver’s side door.

Police said Jackson claimed she wouldn’t start the vehicle, but she did so and placed the car in reverse. They said the action caused the officer to be dragged, and the vehicle hit a sign.

The officer managed to escape, and Jackson fled the scene. Police said she was later arrested after a brief chase involving Biloxi police.

Jackson was charged with one count of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. She was transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center. She is being held on a $250,000 bond.
