JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson police announced a man has been arrested in connection to the death of his mother.

Detective Tommie Brown said Jerry Banks, 42, was arrested around 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 7. He will be charged with murder, burglary of an occupied dwelling and domestic aggravated assault.

According to investigators, the homicide occurred in the 900 block of Carver Street around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 4.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered the victim, 63-year-old Louise Banks Tornes, had been assaulted. Brown said Tornes died from blunt force trauma.

Police said Banks attempted to assault other family members and fled the scene before officers arrived.
