Thousands of Mississippians without power as Francine moves through state

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Francine was downgraded to a tropical storm Wednesday night as it started moving through Mississippi.

As the storm continues to move through the state on Thursday, thousands of power outages have been reported.

According to PowerOutage.us, more than 57,000 customers are without power as of 5:45 a.m. The majority of the outages were reported along the Mississippi Coast and the Pine Belt region.

Dixie Electric reported more than 4,200 customers without power Thursday morning.

Here is a power outage update as of 5:30 a.m.:

  • Covington – 23
  • Forrest – 274
  • Jones – 2,884
  • Perry – 163
  • Wayne – 938
  • Jasper – 6

Southern Pine Electric also reported 16,481 meters without power as of 6:30 a.m. on Thursday.

Outages by County:

  • Copiah County – 149
  • Newton County – 901
  • Covington County – 3,500
  • Rankin County – 773
  • Jasper County – 1,900
  • Scott County – 998
  • Jeff Davis County – 2,000
  • Simpson County – 2,800
  • Lawrence County – 623
  • Smith County – 2,500
  • Forrest County – 237
