JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The City of Jackson is closer to tearing down an eyesore.

City officials said Hotel O, located off Interstate 55, has been a hub for illegal dumping and other foul practices.

The Jackson City Council declared the property a menace to the public health, safety and welfare of the capital city. They will begin the bidding process for the demolition of the hotel starting October 1, 2024.

Along with that process, the city is allowing the owners of the property 30 days to clean it up and have it up to date on code violations.

“What’s taking place at Northside Drive and I-55 is a disgrace for the City of Jackson and the state of Mississippi. It is the worst thing that could ever happen. You make the best investment of your hard earned money, a dream that becomes a nightmare,” said Jackson City Councilman Kenneth Stokes, Ward 3.

City leaders said once time expires for the owners, they will move to select a contractor for the demolition and have the building torn down within 30 days of issuing the contract.
