JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Some Belhaven residents are concerned after their water was shut off for hours on end.

Aerial Adams, who lives in the Jackson neighborhood, said this isn’t the first time she hasn’t been given a heads up when it comes to shut offs.

“Honestly, this is the second time for me personally. So, the first time was about two weeks ago. Didn’t know then. Didn’t know this time. So, my water went out yesterday, probably around sometime between 10:00 a.m. and 11:25 a.m. because I had class. And so, I went to class. I had water. I came out of class. I didn’t have water, and I haven’t had water since,” she said.

WJTV 12 News reached out to JXN Water about the shut offs.

“Recently, JXN Water had to conduct emergency repairs in the Belhaven area in response to critical issues within our water distribution system. We sincerely apologize for the disruption, especially to our elderly and disabled residents who may be particularly affected,” JXN Water officials said.

“It’s honestly just been very like inconvenient for me personally. But it’s more so just… I’m thinking about just the people in Belhaven. There’s a lot of disabled, there’s a lot of elderly people, and they may not have access to just get in a car, go the way that I can. And I, we really do deserve better because the people of Jackson. It’s just like the people at any other location. They’re just like anybody, anywhere else,” said Adams.

Officials with JXN Water said some situations require immediate action without prior notice. They encouraged residents, who are experiencing issues, to contact the 24/7 call center at 601-500-5200.
