JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A Jackson church responded to recent violence in the city with a prayer walk after one of their members was stabbed to death inside her home.

Representatives of New Horizon Church International were joined by local residents and the family of Margaret Washington on Wednesday. The 58-year-old woman was found stabbed to death inside her home on Exchange Drive on Monday, September 23.

Jackson police said a family member discovered Washington’s body inside her bedroom. She had been stabbed multiple times.

“It’s very hard. It’s very hard. It was so sudden. I was at work. We worked together, and she didn’t come, and we went looking for her and to find her that way… it was heartbreaking. And it was… it was beyond devastating. And words can’t put you can’t put into words how how we felt and what we went through,” said Tondee Clincy, Washington’s niece.

Police said Washington’s vehicle was stolen and found the same day in South Jackson. They are still searching for the suspect responsible for Washington’s death.

“There’s too much killing, too much negativity. There’s too many other things going on for us not to get out here and do something about it, especially as men,” said Ronnie Crudup, Jr., executive director of New Horizon Ministries.

The prayer group walked along Terry Road to McCluer Road in South Jackson. A few stopped to pray at each block.

Officials with New Horizon Church International said they will continue to stand with the community and advocate for change in the capital city.
