JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson residents, who live in Ward 2, cast their ballots on Tuesday to determine who will replace former Councilwoman Angelique Lee.

Six candidates are vying for the seat. Ward 2 residents said they expect the winning candidate to make community improvements.

“Actually, we need good people in the office and people that we can trust in our office. And we need to have the streets fixed within our community,” said one voter.

The special election comes after Lee resigned in August 2024 before she pled guilty to conspiracy to commit bribery in federal court.

If necessary, a runoff election will be held on October 22. The winner will finish Lee’s term, which will end in 2025.
