JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Candidates are making their voices heard as they make their announcement to run for Jackson mayor.
On Thursday, State Senator John Horhn (D-Miss.) threw his hat into the ring. Several supporters of Horhn were present at the Jackson Medical Mall, including State Representatives Zakiya Summers (D-Miss.) and Earle Banks (D-Miss.).
They said unity, trust and collaborative efforts are what it takes to transform the City of Jackson.
“We haven’t had a plan in over 25 years. So, that’s going to be the first order of business because we’ve got to know where we’re going. But the second thing is we got to clean this city up. So dilapidation, blight and cut the grass. We have got to clean this place up to make it’s more attractive to folks who live here and to folks that we may be able to attract here,” said Horhn.
He added that economic development is his forte, and he pledged to build up the capital city by introducing homeowner programs.
