JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A chase involving the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) ended during a crash in Jackson.
According to officials with the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP), a trooper made a traffic stop on a Nissan Altima on U.S. 49 North near Ratliff Road in Hinds County just before 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 14.
While the trooper was interviewing the driver, he noticed a wanted person was the passenger in the vehicle. Officials said the passenger was asked to step out of the vehicle. The driver then jumped out of the vehicle, and the passenger jumped into the driver’s seat and took off in the Nissan.
According to MHP, the chase ended on I-220 South near exit 2A when the Nissan ran off the road and collided with a cable barrier. The suspect, who was identified as 33-year-old Jody Tate, of Bentonia, tried to run away from the scene and was arrested.
Tate was transported to the Yazoo County Detention Center. He was charged with felony fleeing and was wanted on several warrants.
