JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – State and local leaders attended a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday for the new Capitol Police Department headquarters.

The headquarters are located across from the Mississippi State Capitol.

“What this headquarters does is it allows us to be in a more centralized location. And like I said, and for the most part, under one roof, so that we can more efficiently communicate among ourselves and with other agencies when we’re holding meetings and things of that nature. But it gives us a better opportunity to coordinate in a more centralized location in the City of Jackson and in the capital,” said Capitol Police Chief Bo Luckey.

With the recent jurisdiction expansion of Capitol police, state partners worked to provide top resources to support the functionality of the department.

“I’ve had the pleasure of working in downtown Jackson for virtually my entire career, both in the private sector and in government offices. And I’ve been blessed to be able to oversee the formation of the Capitol police from basically a security entity in government buildings at the Department of Finance Administration to a full fledged police department that has the ability to help deter crime,” said Gov. Tate Reeves (R-Miss.).

Luckey hopes the expansion will draw more officers to the department.
