RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – A man was injured after being run over by a tractor in Rankin County.
The incident happened in the 1000 block of Highway 469 North in Florence. Rankin County deputies said the sheriff’s office received a call about the incident just after 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 18.
Investigators said the 77-year-old man was conscious and alert when first responders arrived at the scene. He suffered a collapsed lung an internal chest injuries. The man was airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in Jackson for treatment.
According to deputies, it appeared the man was preparing a food plot for the upcoming hunting season. When he attempted to dismount the tractor, investigators said the tractor was accidentally knocked into gear, and the man was pulled under the tractor and run over.
As of Saturday, October 19, the man was listed in serious but stable condition at UMMC.
