JONES COUNTY, Miss. (WHLT) – Bond has been denied for two teenagers who were charged in connection to a shooting at the South Mississippi Fair in Laurel.
On Monday, a judge denied bond to Akealeis McKensie, 18, of Laurel, and Jailen Shade, 18, of Laurel, saying they were both a threat to society and flight risks.
McKensie has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a stolen firearm, while Shade was charged with attempted murder.
According to Jones County investigators, an argument led to the shooting at the fair on Saturday, October 19. They said the victim, 17-year-old Darren Duff, was shot in the leg. Investigators believe Duff was not the intended target.
Duff is currently hospitalized and is expected to recover.
