HOLMES COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Holmes County Sheriff Willie March is asking for the community’s help to solve a triple homicide that occurred during a trail ride gathering.

The shooting occurred around midnight on Saturday, October 19 on Highway 17 North about five miles outside of the City of Lexington. Three people were killed and eight others were injured.

The three victims who were killed were identified as 25-year-old Martel Gibson, of Durant; 19-year-old Shundra Chestnut, of Kosciusko; and 19-year-old John Jenkins, of Durant.

March said he’s spoken with at least two of the eight victims, and some of them are still recovering at a hospital.

“If a person have a fear, they don’t want to come to the sheriff’s office to make the interview that they will let us know. We were a different location for them, even to MBI for different location. And give a statement. So, we want to work with them in a way they feel safe,” the sheriff said.

Anyone with information can contact the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office at 662-834-1511 or Crime Stoppers at 662-834-0099.
