JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – As a Jackson mother mourns the loss of her son, Jackson police are asking for the community’s help to solve the case.

Robert Nelson, a father of three, was shot and killed in July 2022 while airing up his tire near the 5000 block of North State Street.

Nelson’s mother, Carolyn Catchings, said she misses her son, and she wants closure in the case.

“They need to do the right thing, because how can you take a life when you give them a life? My thing is, there comes a day when you might be here where I am. I’m just asking for help. Come out. You got a voice. You know, use your voice. Your voice represents everything within you. So, come out this hour, and I just need justice for my son. I miss him dearly, but like I said, I got some closure. But I don’t have the closure of that I really need. God is working with me. He’s working with me,” Catchings said.

Jackson police are asking anyone with information about the case to come forward. It’s part of the department’s “Stand With Me” campaign that aims to bring families in the capital city justice.
