UPDATE:
HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WHLT) – Hattiesburg police said a man was arrested in connection to the shooting death of his wife after her vehicle crashed into a building.
The incident occurred on Park Place Avenue around 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 26.
Officers said the female driver had a gunshot wound to her abdomen and was pronounced deceased at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
Investigators said the victim’s husband, Kenrod Cartez Echols, 50, of Columbia, contacted authorities shortly after officers arrived and admitted to his involvement in the shooting.
Echols has been charged with first degree murder, tampering with evidence and malicious mischief. He was booked into the Forrest County Jail.
According to the jail’s website, Echols received a $750,000 bond for first-degree murder, a $25,000 bond for tampering with evidence and a $25,000 for malicious mischief.

When officers arrived at the location, investigators said a woman was found unresponsive inside her vehicle. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.
No other injuries were reported, and the investigation is ongoing.
