UPDATE:
RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – A 16-year-old from Rankin County has been found safe in Arkansas, and a man has been arrested.
Investigators said they discovered that John Michael Jones had been lured online to meet with someone down the road from the home.
Authorities identified the suspect as 34-year-old Kaleb James Cannady, and a Be On the Look Out (B.O.L.O.) was issued for Cannady’s vehicle. Investigators said the vehicle was located just after 7:15 p.m. on Monday, October 28 in Arkansas.
Cannady was arrested for active warrants through the Rankin County Court. Deputies said Jones was found safe and is now in the custody of Arkansas State Police.
Investigators said Cannady will face extradition back to Rankin County on charges of enticement and kidnapping.
The investigation is ongoing.
RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Rankin County deputies are searching for a missing 16-year-old.
On Sunday, October 27, deputies said they were notified that John Michael Jones, a resident of Brandon and a student at Hartfield Academy, was missing from his home.
Investigators said there is no evidence to indicate foul play at this time. They said Jones has been battling depression after the death of his father and a grandparent, leading his family to worry that he may be contemplating self-harm.
Jones was last seen around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 26 wearing blue shorts and a white T-shirt. Investigators said a black backpack was missing from his room.
Rankin County deputies contacted the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) for assistance in the issuance of a Purple Alert. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Jones can contact their local law enforcement agency or the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office at 601-825-1480.
