One Week Away: Mississippi prepares for 2024 General Election

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The 2024 General Election is one week away, and state leaders said all hands are on deck.

Secretary of State Michael Watson (R-Miss.) encouraged Mississippians to use their voice by casting their ballots on Tuesday, November 5.

Watson said he appreciates the number of phone calls, texts and social media inquiries his office has received regarding election day. He believes voter engagement is important.

“We spent a lot of time traveling the state, as you all know, 82-county tour. And one of the things we heard the most were clerks were saying people just don’t know what elections are. You know, for me and you, that sounds like it doesn’t make a lot of sense, because we know where they are. But in general, we’ve done a lot more outreach to make sure people are aware of when elections are coming up,” Watson said.

If any issues occur on November 5, such as precinct changes, voters can visit YallVote.ms or call their local Circuit Clerk’s office.

The deadline to vote in-person absentee is November 2, 2024.
