JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – An Ocean Springs woman was charged with felony child abuse after she allegedly participated in a “suicide pact” with her 10-year-old daughter.

WXXV reported Brittney Hensley, 37, was arrested in Huntsville, Alabama, on October 15 and extradited back to Mississippi.

Ocean Springs police said officers arrived at the Studio 6 Motel on Bienville Boulevard on July 6 after receiving a report about a child overdosing. Investigators said the child was found unresponsive near unknown capsules and empty prescription bottles.

According to police, Hensley and her daughter were both hospitalized after the incident. During the course of the investigation, police said Hensley left the Coast, and a warrant was issued for her arrest.

Hensley is currently being held in the Jackson County Jail on a $500,000 bond. Her daughter was placed in the custody of Mississippi Child Protective Services (CPS).
