MADISON, Miss. (WJTV) – Officials with the Madison Police Department announced a longtime member of the law enforcement community has died.
According to officials, Lt. William Christopher “Chris” Picou died from an injury while at his hunting camp on November 10, 2024.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, fellow Madison Police Department officers and staff, and our first responder family,” Madison police said.
Picou worked at several law enforcement agencies in the Jackson metro area, including the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office and the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office.
“Lt. Picou’s unwavering commitment to serving our community spanned decades, including his time as Hinds County Sheriff’s Office Undersheriff from 2012 to 2016. His dedication and service touched countless lives, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him,” said Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones.

Picou’s funeral will be held at Broadmoor Baptist Church in Madison. The visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to noon followed by the funeral. He will be buried at Monterey Baptist Church Cemetery in Monterrey, Louisiana.
