RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Rankin County deputies said the man who attempted to assault a woman with a chainsaw was arrested after chase into the City of Jackson.
Investigators said they received a call from the woman just after 3:15 a.m. on Monday, November 11. She requested a civil standby to obtain some personal items from a home on Loflin Road in the Florence area after an alleged domestic dispute.
While deputies were responding to the scene, the woman stated that the suspect, Jason Antonio Slater, had attempted to assault her with a chainsaw and carjacked her vehicle, a silver Toyota Camry.
Deputies said they spotted the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. However, the suspect failed to yield.
According to investigators, Florence police, Richland police and Pearl police assisted as the vehicle traveled north to Highway 80 and fled west into the City of Jackson. Capitol police were notified and assisted.
Authorities used spike strips, which caused the Camry to lose a tire and crash at the intersection of Highway 80 and Gallatin Street. Deputies said Slater attempted to run away, but he was arrested after a taser was deployed.
Slater was treated by medical personnel on scene then cleared and transported to the Rankin County Detention Center. He has been charged with aggravated domestic violence, carjacking and fleeing & eluding. Slater is currently being held without bond until his initial appearance Rankin County Court.
