FLOWOOD, Miss. (WJTV) – After nearly four decades of service, Flowood Mayor Gary Rhoads announced he will retire and will not seek reelection.
Rhoads was first elected as mayor on June 6, 1989. He previously served at the city’s chief of police from 1981 to 1989.
“I’ve been fortunate to serve such wonderful citizens,” he said.
During his time as mayor, the city completed several projects, including Dogwood Festival, Lakeland Commons, the Sheraton Hotel and Conference Center, the Refuge Golf Course, and many healthcare facilities.
As he prepares to step down, Rhoads said he looks forward to spending more time with his wife, two children and four grandchildren.
“It’s time to slow down and enjoy life with my family,” he stated.
Rhoads will retire at the end of his current term.
