MCCOMB, Miss. (WJTV) – McComb Police Chief Juan Cloy has been placed on administrative leave after a fatal officer-involved shooting.

The shooting occurred near the 200 block of 25th Street in McComb on November 14.

According to authorities, McComb police received calls about a suspicious vehicle in the area. They said four young men were inside the car.

“They were riding through the neighborhood with hoodies on and flashing rifles out of the vehicle. They had the community a little disturbed, a little upset, and they wanted the police department to be aware of what was going on,” said McComb Mayor Quordiniah Lockley.

Officials with the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS) said when police arrived, two suspects exited the car and presented a gun at the officers. Lockley said Cloy fired a shot, killing 16-year-old Jamorian Seiber.

The mayor believes Cloy followed protocol. The police chief will remain on leave as the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) completes their investigation.

“I’m not going to second guess what the report will say. I’m going to say let MBI complete their report, and we will respond to the information they share with us in their report,” Lockley said.

Tommy Walters lives in the neighborhood where the shooting occurred. He said crime has gotten out of hand in the area.

“They need to do something about this. It’s too much killing going on. All these little kids running around, all these little 16-year-olds and 12-year-olds running around with guns in their pockets. And the police are looking at these people, they’re seeing the kids with the guns, with the clips sticking out, and they’re not doing nothing. They just take the guns away from them,” said Walters.

Lockley said violent crime has been on the rise in the city in recent years.

“This is disturbing. It’s alarming that here in McComb, Mississippi, that we have such gun violence here. I’ve had approximately five community meetings throughout the city to address gun violence, our youth violence in our city, trying to come up with some idea as to how we can reduce the gun violence,” he said.

Lockley also asked the community to be patient while MBI conducts their investigation.
