JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The retrial for the man accused of killing a local community activist in 2022 has been set for December 9, 2024.
William “Polo” Edwards was arrested and charged in connection to the death of Better Men Society founder Robert Davis. He was denied bond by Judge Eleanor Faye Peterson in October 2023 after a mistrial was declared in his case.
Edwards is accused of killing Davis inside Shadow Robinson’s Clinton home on May 1, 2022.
Edwards was arrested in connection to the case after a chase in New Orleans, Louisiana, on May 3, 2022. He was indicted for murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm in Hinds County. Edwards pled not guilty.
The state filed a motion on November 25, 2024, to dismiss information regarding Robinson’s prior manslaughter conviction. She was the star witness during Edwards’ first trial and part of a love triangle involving Davis and Edwards.
The defense posed several motions in the case and asked the court to consider moving the trial to January 13, 2025. The state made a similar motion, which Peterson denied. She said it would not be until 2026 if they were to delay the trial.
Edwards’ attorney, Brandon Dorsey, said he wants to thoroughly review all the data from the state. Dorsey also said geographical barriers have hindered him from speaking with his client, but he believes they’re prepared for trial.
“In my recitation, I did make it make it known to the court that because of those geographical barriers, you know, it impacts my ability to adequately work with my plan go the facts of the case. And again, this case has a wealth of electronic data that, you know, you just need to hand it over that,” stated Dorsey.
Edwards is currently being housed at the Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility in Tutwiler, Mississippi.
Peterson also informed the court that the retrial will not be livestreamed to avoid character slander of those involved in the case.
