JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson police announced they arrested a 16-year-old and are searching for an 18-year-old in connection to a fatal shooting.

The unidentified 16-year-old was arrested on Tuesday, December 3. He was charged with capital murder and attempt to commit robbery.

Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade identified the second suspect as Derrick Jones. He’s wanted for capital murder in connection to the death of Samuel Taylor, 18.

Police responded to the 4200 block of Fairfax Avenue around 4:30 p.m. on Friday, November 29 regarding a shooting victim. Taylor’s body was found at the location.

Shortly before Taylor was found on Fairfax Avenue, officers had responded to a call in the 2000 block of Chadwick Drive after shots were fired into several apartments. Detective Tommie Brown said the three suspects were in a silver sedan. Detectives are investigating the possibility that the two shootings are related.

Wade said investigators believe the shooting happened due to drug activity.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Jones can contact the Jackson Police Department (JPD) at 601-960-1234 or Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS(8477).
