BROOKHAVEN, Miss. (WJTV) – A retired teacher died during an apartment fire in Brookhaven.

The Daily Leader reported the fire occurred at Jackson Square Apartments on North Jackson Street just before 5:45 a.m. on Wednesday, December 4.

Lincoln County Coroner Blake Wallace identified the victim as Barbara Nelson Smith. She was a retired teacher with the Brookhaven School District.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
