LAUREL, Miss. (WHLT) – A porch pirate in Laurel was caught on camera.

Laurel public defender Matt Sherman said his Ring camera captured video of a white car pulling into his driveway on Monday. The video showed a woman getting out of the car, walking towards his porch and stealing multiple packages.

“I find the suspect, the female in the video to be synonymous with the Grinch. He’s famous for stealing Christmas, and here she is. I have a one-year-old in one of those items she stole was a gift for my child. And so absolutely, it’s even it’s more vile since it’s the holiday season,” Sherman said.

He shared the video on Facebook. Within hours, his followers were able to identify the suspect.

Laurel police said porch pirates are common during the holiday season. They recommend security cameras and precautions to prevent theft.

“A lot of the services offer a text message or an email when the things arrive. So, you can try to get it off your porch. If you don’t, I think you can arrange with some of them to put it in a specific location, possibly somewhere a little hidden, and maybe get a neighbor to help you out,” said Laurel Police Chief Tommy Cox.

Laurel police are still trying to locate the suspect in Sherman’s video, as well as the driver of the car. Anyone with information can contact the Laurel Police Department.
