SIMPSON COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Several Simpson County residents are concerned after severe weather left them in the dark for days.

Electrical crews were scatted throughout Mendenhall on Tuesday, working to get the lights back on for customers. However, many residents are still without power.

Gagandeeb Singh, the owner of AJ’s Super Stop, said he’s had to throw away ice cream, poultry products and other items due to the outage. However, his concerns are for those families in the community that depend on his store.

“It’s been approximately three days, and people face a lot of problems around this neighborhood. They all totally depend on us to buy fuel, food and snacks. I see a lot of people face problems here without food,” Singh said.

Simpson County Emergency Management officials said two homes were destroyed during Saturday’s storms, but there were no fatalities. One person was hurt and transported to the hospital, but the person has since been released.

“We’re at 12.5% outage. So, you know, we’re close. They got the code on 4913 and 149 up. So now they’ll be working inside the communities to get them all going,” said John Kilpatrick, director of the Simpson County Emergency Management.

Mendenhall Mayor Todd Booth asked residents to be patient.

“They will have the lights back on before long gone. Thankfully our water structure and all that has been good. Generators have kept our water system and all that going on. So, that’s a blessing,” Booth said.

According to Entergy Mississippi’s website, power is expected to be restored in Mendenhall by 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 31.
