HINDS COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Due to an ongoing boil water notice in Utica, a water distribution drive was held on Friday, January 3.
Hinds County Supervisor Bobby McGowan, District 5, held the distribution drive at the Bench Volunteer Fire Department, located at 7460 Old Port Gibson Road in Utica, while supplies last.
According to the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH), water system officials notified the agency of a power outage due to recent storm damage. Hinds County officials said there are some mechanical issues at the Reedtown Water Association.
“It speaks to the dire situation. Rural water associations need just as much support as every other association, because when their water goes out, it’s longer to get recovery,” said De’Keither Stamps, Central District Commissioner of the Mississippi Public Service Commission.
According to Hinds County leaders, they will announce additional water distribution sites at a later time.
