RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Rankin County deputies arrested a man after another person was shot near Florence.

The shooting happened on Sunset Lane on Friday, January 3. Rankin County deputies said they received a call about a shooting involving multiple intoxicated individuals around 8:00 p.m.

When deputies arrived, they found a male victim suffering a gunshot wound to the leg. He was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in Jackson and is in stable condition.

Deputies said Matthew Stringer, 21, of Florence, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. He was was transported to the Rankin County Detention Center where he remains without bond and will have to appear in Rankin County Court.

The investigation is ongoing.
