STATE LINE, Miss. (WJTV) – The search is ongoing for the suspect who killed three people at a Mississippi gas station on New Year’s Day.
Residents of State Line are still uneasy because the suspect has not been captured.
“Everyone is just still scared, because they haven’t caught the person yet. Just fear. You know, you got to watch your surroundings. So, you know, everybody’s just on the lookout,” said Deon Kern, a State Line resident.
The reward for information leading to the arrest of the unidentified suspect has been raised to $25,000. Greene County deputies said the suspect is considered to be armed and dangerous.
“He’s one of the most dangerous people I’ve dealt with since I’ve been in law enforcement. You know, watching the videos of, you know, each murder that took place was on video. And I’ll just say, he has no remorse,” said Greene County Deputy Brad Warrick.
Though the sheriff’s department remains the lead investigator, the case has been turned over to the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office.
Multiple law enforcement agencies continue to work tirelessly to ensure that the person or persons responsible for these tragic and cowardly acts are brought to justice.

For now, the community said they’re looking out for one another and remembering the lives of Rhonda Denson, Lester Campbell and Jason Thornton.
“Miss Rhonda, I knew her. She worked here for a long time. She went to Waynesboro and came back. She hadn’t been back to State Line long. We were glad to see her back, and the other guy that got killed, Jason, I’ve known him really all my life,” said Terry Young, a State Line resident.
