Man charged after trying to flee MHP traffic stop

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Troopers with the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) arrested a man after he tried to flee from a traffic stop, officials said.

The incident occurred on Interstate 55 South between Elton Road and Savanna Street in Hinds County on Wednesday, January 8.

Trooper First Class Darnika Mayfield said a trooper stopped a vehicle at the location. According to Mayfield, the driver, 37-year-old Zerrick Lewis, of Bolton, resisted arrest, tried to run away and was tased by the trooper.

Mayfield said Lewis had drug paraphernalia and other controlled substances in his vehicle. He has been charged with seatbelt violation, DUI other, resisting arrest and fleeing from law enforcement.
