JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson State University (JSU) is preparing for any future water crisis.
This week, workers began the process of installing five new water tanks on campus. The tanks will be placed in strategic areas on the campus. Officials said if the city loses water, the university could have usable water for three to four days thanks to the new tanks.
The largest tank will be able to hold more than 200,000 gallons of water.
“We decided to put the tanks in because we don’t have the infrastructure to have our own well on campus. That’s a huge undertaking, so this was the next best option to have tanks and cost effective, as well. The number is astronomically high to have our own well on campus. So this number, we’re happy for the legislature who provided us support to get this project done,” said JSU President Dr. Marcus Thompson.
Officials expect the tanks will be up and running within nine months to a year.
