JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson police and firefighters are investigating after a man was found deceased after a house fire.
The fire occurred late Thursday night at a home on Rutledge Avenue.
“When our crews got there, they did find a deceased subject in that house. And right now, I mean, after they extinguished the fire and got everything out. They’re in the process of investigating that to see how that person actually died,” said Assistant Jackson Fire Chief Patrick Armon.
The victim has been identified as John Kelly, 68. His cousin, Mike Johnson, said their family had been helping relocate Kelly to better living conditions.
“I’ve been telling him not to live in the house because of the conditions of it and everything else based on being there, and this happened. We just had a conversation about it a week ago that he don’t need to be there,” said Johnson.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
