GEORGE COUNTY, Miss. (WHLT) – A man and a woman were killed during a house fire in George County.

The fire occurred at a home in the Barton community around 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 9.

George County deputies said Rachel Ware, 75, and Davis Ware, 85, died during the fire.

The Mississippi State Fire Marshal’s Office is currently working alongside the George County Sheriff’s Office to investigate the fire. According to deputies, preliminary findings by the Fire Marshal indicate that the fire was accidental in nature.

George County Coroner Deeann Murrah ruled the deaths as accidental due to smoke inhalation, deputies said.
