RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Rankin County deputies arrested a woman after a standoff near Florence on Sunday, January 19.

Investigator Tyler Burnell, with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, said deputies responded to a home in the Plantation Shores neighborhood off of Highway 49 near Florence just after 1:45 p.m. in reference to a domestic disturbance.

When deputies arrived, Burnell said they discovered that Shelia Finnegan, 63, had attacked her ex-boyfriend with a knife and then barricaded herself inside the home.

The Rankin County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team (SRT) was notified in addition to the Crisis Negotiations Team. Burnell said investigators and negotiators discovered that there had been multiple prior incidents at the home. They said Finnegan had been using narcotics prior to the assault.

The male victim was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in Jackson. He’s in stable condition.

Deputies with the SRT deployed an energetic entry in order to breach the barricaded home. Just before 4:00 p.m., deputies located and arrested Finnegan for aggravated domestic violence. Burnell said she was assessed by medical personnel and refused treatment.

Finnegan was transported to the Rankin County Detention Center. She will have to appear in Rankin County Court, at which time her bond will be set.
