Pedestrian killed during hit-and-run on I-55 in Jackson

UPDATE:

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade identified the suspect as Jeremy Burse. He was arrested on Sunday, January 26.

Burse was charged with felony failure to stop and remain at accident resulting in death or serious injury.

According to Wade, Burse is a Jackson firefighter and was off-duty at the time of the incident. He is being held without bond.


JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A pedestrian was killed during a hit-and-run on Interstate 55 in Jackson, police said.

Detective Tommie Brown, with the Jackson Police Department (JPD), said the unidentified victim was hit on I-55 North near Savanna Street on Sunday, January 26.

According to Brown, investigators found debris from the vehicle at the location. They believe the vehicle could be a black or maroon 2018 Dodge Durango with significant damage to the front fender and light.

The victim was identified as Rickey Taylor, 71.
