CANTON, Miss. (WJTV) – A woman, who was kidnapped from the Canton Nissan plant, has died after falling from a car, and a suspect is in custody.

Heath Hall, the spokesperson for the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, said deputies responded to the plant around 7:30 a.m. on Monday, January 27 after receiving a call about the kidnapping.

Holmes County Sheriff Willie March said the victim jumped out of the vehicle on Interstate 55 in Holmes County near Carroll County. The woman, who was identified as Antoinette Jackson, 31, died from her injuries after she was hit by another car.

Hall said Jackson had been shot multiple times. He said investigators recovered a gun.

The suspect was identified as Joshua Andrews, 29. He was taken into custody by Carroll County deputies.

Andrews has been transported to the Madison County Detention Center and has been charged with capital murder and felon in possession of a firearm. He made his initial court appearance on Tuesday, January 28 and was denied bond. The state argued that he was a flight risk because he traveled from Georgia to Mississippi to commit the crime.

According to March, Andrews is the father of one of Jackson’s three children.

“This is a heinous crime that shocks the conscience of society, and Andrews will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law,” said Madison County Sheriff Randy Tucker.

WJTV 12 News reached out to Nissan about the kidnapping, and officials said this was an active investigation by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC), Andrews was previously sentenced for shooting into a motor vehicle and aggravated assault. He was released from prison on September 7, 2022.
