SMITH COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – The Smith County sheriff said a suspect, who was wanted for multiple sex-related crimes, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Sheriff Joel Houston said he was coordinating with the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force to serve an arrest warrant on the suspect just outside of the Taylorsville area around 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 29.
According to Houston, the warrant was issued in connection with multiple sex-related crimes involving a minor that occurred in Lauderdale County.
Upon making contact, Houston said the suspect emerged with a firearm. He said law enforcement officers attempted negotiations, but the situation resulted in the unidentified suspect sustaining a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The individual died from their injuries at the scene.
