RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Officials with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks (MDWFP) announced the new application period for the Pelahatchie Bay Alligator Season.

The application period will be March 3-14, 2025. MDWFP will offer 24 alligator hunting permits for the Pelahatchie Bay area of Ross Barnett Reservoir during May 2025.

According to the agency, this alligator hunting season is set during the breeding season for alligators and prior to emergence of aquatic vegetation, which restricts boating access.

The two hunting periods for the Pelahatchie Bay area will be:

• May 2, 12:00 p.m. to May 5, 12:00 p.m.
• May 9, 12:00 p.m. to May 12, 12:00 p.m.

MDWFP officials said each hunt period will allow 12 permit holders among six hunting parties.
