Hinds County deputies arrest 2 after guns, drugs seized

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Hinds County deputies arrested two men on drug charges after they executed a search warrant at a Jackson home.

According to investigators, the search warrant was executed at a home in the 1500 block of Winchester Street on Tuesday, February 18. The Hinds County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division received assistance from the Hinds County Street Crimes Unit and the Jackson Police Department (JPD) Narcotics.

Deputies said the operation was conducted due to complaints of selling and distribution of narcotics, as well as modified handguns and switches from the home. Authorities seized nearly $2,500 in cash, 10.6 pounds of marijuana, a Glock 22 with a switch, 101 bottles of promethazine and 51.5 grams of THC.

Ernest Burnside and Channing Thomas were both arrested.

Burnside was charged with trafficking marijuana with intent, possession of controlled substances with intent while armed, possession of a machine gun conversion kit and felon in possession of a firearm.

Thomas was charged with possession of controlled substances with intent, trafficking marijuana with intent and possession of a machine gun conversion kit.

The Hinds County Sheriff’s Office will refer this case to their federal partners for possible federal prosecution.
