BYRAM, Miss. (WJTV) – Byram police announced a gang member was arrested for allegedly shooting another man he met on a dating app.
Byram Police Chief David Errington said on Thursday, February 20, officers were notified by medical personnel about a male victim. The police chief said the victim was being treated for a non-life threatening gunshot wound he receiving during a fight in the 2500 block of Davis Road in Byram.
Officers responded to the scene. Upon further investigation, Errington said detectives developed suspect information. The suspect, Shakur Shaqawane McGee, 31, of Brookhaven, was arrested on Friday, February 21 in Lincoln County with the assistance of Brookhaven police.
Errington said McGee had prior communication with the victim through the social media dating application Tagged.

McGee was transported to Byram Municipal Court for his initial appearance on the charges of aggravated assault and felon in possession of a firearm. Errington said McGee has an extensive criminal history for robbery, burglary, weapon offenses, and is a verified gang member of the Vice Lords.
McGee was denied bond and transported to the Hinds County Detention Center.
Errington urged the community to be very cautious when meeting people on social media platforms and dating applications. He said you should meet in a safe, familiar, and/or public place, and be aware of your surroundings.
